1.
Hopeful 01:52
When Will You Change? I don't believe that people stay the same. When will you recognize all the mistakes you've made? When will you see All the fighting, that wasn't meant to be. We need to learn and grow So we can love in a new way.
2.
When will you know that I'll never leave? Sometimes we need some space to breathe. You hold my hand, then let it go. So unsure. I feel our instability. You can't keep running away, You know I'm your missing piece. And every time you change your mind, I forget how to be happy. And that's so unfair, and I forget myself, you were my priority, and I forget myself.
3.
I'm not sorry for falling in love with you. You didn't tell me you didn't want me to. Now I'm trying, trying to change my ways So you'll feel more comfortable and want to stay. When I met you, I found you magical. You attracted everyone around you. Then you saw me, you went and noticed me. I felt lucky to be the girl you see. Now we're here and I feel forgotten. You're across the ocean, and I feel lost. And I just want to understand, why you make me feel like the best version of myself. You make me feel like the best version of myself. You stopped trying to solve the mystery You ran away just to get over me. I'm not stupid, I know you'll learn from this. I'll forgive you, when I know you're sorry. Maybe you'll change your mind one day, Maybe you'll wish I was yours, Maybe you'll make me understand, and make me stay once more. Now we're here and I feel forgotten. You're across the ocean, and I feel lost. And I just want to understand, why you make me feel like the best version of myself. You make me feel like the best version of myself.
4.
I don't know what to do anymore, You hurt me to my core, You hurt me to my core. I want to make things right, And speak with you tonight. And be with you tonight. I know you did me wrong, But still I write you all my love songs, I write you all my love songs. The pain will slowly fade away, Is this the story ending? Are we just friends?
5.
I know you are my best friend dear, I know this will never end dear, Will it end dear? Six long months have passed, dear, And you are still here kissing me, Holding me, Telling me you love me. I am far away from you now, I am miles and miles away now, Do you miss me? We fight every other week, And then when we try not to speak, I call you, you see me, once again our hearts are warm and happy. So just suck it up, And just admit we can't live without each other.

about

Liner Notes by Lea Ceasrine

Like mermaids are to folklore, Zola is to jazz – magical and iconic. Her vocals soothe the ear in waves, among trombones and acoustics, the sounds combined are a modest representation of nature itself: one continuous cycle. It's fitting that the album begins hopeful – and ends in a two-part broken cycle. Still, there's nothing broken about Zola's range. Her music is a beach day and feast, a tune you'll find yourself humming in cycles.

1. 'Hopeful' takes you along an aquatic adventure, an octave or two into the depths of the sea.

2. Like the late Simone, Zola is unapologetically honest with her lyrics in 'Missing Piece'. The upward melody and solo strings are a beautiful distraction from the somber heat of the song.

3. The crux of 'August_February' is a long wind of fun sounds and raw feelings. The full cycle.

4. 'Broken Cycle Pt. 1' is the eye of the storm, and Zola takes you there via arias.

5. 'Broken Cycle Pt. 2' speaks to Zola's ability of making folk jazzy. The catchy hook is the calm of the storm.
